We got to have dinner at Churchview farm which is “a third generation sustainable family farmette in Pittsburgh, PA”.
The farm is tucked away in the South Hills in a place you’d never expect (or easily find.) Churchview is a small, family run farm with chickens (around 60 or so) that live in an old hunting trailer, an old barn and a number of planting beds for everything from herbs to melons. At some point they are adding goats for milk and grass cutting.
We got a quick tour, got to meet the farm cats, chickens and ducks, had a cocktail made with locally made Boyd & Blair vodka then sat down to a nice spread of goodies to munch on before dinner.
Food was prepared by Kate Romane of E2 and was wonderful as usual. A very nice bunny ravioli to start followed up with a simple greens salad then a roasted hen with honey polenta and mushrooms. Lots of wine from dreadnought wines in the strip district and some fun conversation made for a very nice dinner. Ricotta ice cream with fresh strawberries (yum) finished out dinner.
All in all, a very relaxing evening … these seem to sell out rather quickly so if you get the chance to sign up, don’t wait.
