Station surprised me a bit. After reading the reviews I wasn’t really sure what to expect but I knew I wanted to give it a try. Located in Bloomfield, Pittsburgh’s “Little Italy” you’d expect lots of pasta, red sauce, Italian wines etc… What you get at Station is completely different. The atmosphere is a little loud but not so much that it chases you out the door. The bartenders follow the current bartender trend; stylish aprons, curly mustaches, a flair for oddly named drinks with no ingredients listed (what’s a “Bloomfield Manhattan”?) The wait staff is friendly and properly tattooed/pierced.
The food is a surprise…we had two small plates, the crispy wings and the miso apple. Both were very good. I liked the pickled grapes with the apples, Mary Catherine liked the foamed Parmesan on the crispy wings. We split the burger for our main course…very tasty, we both liked the light brioche bun. Cocktails from the bar were good. I did try the Bloomfield Manhattan which was a little sweet for my liking but the Campari was a welcomed change.
Every review of Station talked about the must have Popcorn dessert. We tried it, it was good but I can’t wait until the “serve small desserts in small glasses/mason jars” is over. Yes, it looks nice but don’t make me work so much for my dessert.
Cocktail in a bog for COVID-19 takeout…nifty idea.
