One of my favorite drinks is the Negroni. It’s simple to make and has that bitternes that I enjoy.
A traditional Negroni (according to Mr Boston) is
- 1 part gin
- 1 part sweet Vermouth
- 1 part Campari
Like everything else there are a bagillion ways to make a Negroni, basically 3 liquors in equal parts. Unlike a Manhattan, I like these “full sized” – around 2 1/4 oz to 3 oz total. Like the Manhattans, I like them in a nice rocks glass with a large ice cube with a lemon twist. These are always stirred over ice first – no shaking please.
For the sweet vermouth I prefer Antica Formula Carpano, for gin I am fond of Aviation gin but there are so many good gins out there try new ones. I would make sure to use a good quality, citrus forward gin for Negronis. I would not use a ginever gin (I don’t like the “whiskey edge” they bring) or a super, high end gin – save those for your martinis.
This list is in no particular order but twist my arm and I’ll ask for the salted Negroni
